NATO’s Deputy Secretary-General: „What happened in Slovakia today is shocking”
The armed attempt on Slovakia’s prime minister, Robert Fico, on Wednesday surprised Mircea Geoana, the deputy secretary general of NATO.
„It’s terrible what happened in Slovakia today! The shooting of Prime Minister Robert Fico has stunned me, and I’m concerned about his condition. Geoana posted on Facebook, „I want to send my love and strength to the Slovak people to get through this terrible moment.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kalinak declared that Prime Minister Robert Fico’s condition is very critical and that he is still undergoing surgery at Roosevelt Hospital in Banska Bystrica.
As Fico was leaving a government meeting in Handlova, a small town in the country’s center, on Wednesday at around 13.00 GMT, he was shot multiple times in the street.
