Images of Nadia Comaneci and Ilie Nastase with apparel and awards from the Legends exhibition and Artmark auction
The Best of Brukenthal, the National of Culture, and Help a mother stand up again! are the three charity sections of Artmark’s May 31 auction, which will feature sports, music, and modern artifacts.
Viewers of the auctioned lots can view the Legends exhibition at the Artmark Galleries, which features signatures and pictures of legendary figures from sports and music, including Ilie Nastase, Nadia Comaneci, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mike Tyson, Loredana Groza, Inna, and Andra.
„In the year in which Ilie Nastase ‘debuted’ on the big screens in the documentary film made by Tudor Giurgiu, ‘Nasty’, we present to white sports lovers some objects bearing the autograph of the famous tennis player: photos from Wimbledon, from 1980, the tennis racket and a ball which he played with at Roland Garros, an Adidas T-shirt – all with Ilie Nastase’s holographic signature,” Artmark stated on Wednesday.
According to the cited source, another highlight of the event is a professional baseball bat, a Babe Ruth model, that is up for auction for 15,000 euros and is holographically signed by seven American presidents: Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush.
Clothes items, trophies belonging to Romanian sports superstars, international stars, and well-known musicians are on display. The majority of these artifacts are being sold to raise money for charitable causes. More than 1,000 women will get medical research, medication, and psychological assistance thanks to the money raised from the sale of these lots.
The Best of Brukenthal and Nationala Culturii/The National of Culture charity sections are also included in the Legends auction.
Eleven t-shirts from the Euro 2024 collection are part of the National of Culture. They feature the names of some of the most significant writers, thinkers, and artists from Romania, including Mihai Eminescu, Constantin Brancusi, George Enescu, Nicolae Grigorescu, Nicolae Tonitza, Stefan Luchian, Dimitrie Cantemir, Lucian Blaga, Mircea Eliade, Ion Luca Caragiale, and Emil Cioran. The SOS Children’s Villages Association will receive the proceeds from this event as a charitable contribution to support the cause of preventing school dropouts.
Ten of the most significant works of art from the Brukenthal National Museum are up for grabs in the Legends auction on the NFT digital version for the first time. The following works are part of the mini-collection called „Best of Brukenthal”: „Ecce Homo” by Tiziano Vecellio (who rejoined the Museum’s collection following the Robbery of the Century in 1968), „Portrait of a Man with a Blue Chaperon” by Jan van Eyck (one of only 20 works left by the artist today), „Cap de Tiganca / Gypsy Head” by Nicolae Grigorescu, „Cap de Copil / Child Head” by Nicolae Tonitza, „Mother and Daughter (Dressing of a Young Saxon Woman)” by Robert Wellmann, „Fata in Albastru / The Girl in Blue Dress” by Misu Popp, „Self-Portrait” by Aelbrecht Bouts, and „Massacre of the Innocents” by Pieter Bruegel the Younger; Hans Memling, Portrait of A Man Reading (Portrait of Pieter Bultnyck); and Ioan Andreescu, Femeie in Padure / Woman in Forest.
The starting price for each of the aforementioned is 100 euros. The money raised will help restore several historical items owned by the Brukenthal National Museum.
The Legends auction exhibition is on display at Artmark Galleries for a period of two weeks, and the auction itself will happen exclusively online on May 31 at 12:00.
