In a rare interview, Céline Dion discusses her illness in detail

In an interview that was published on Wednesday in the most recent edition of Vogue France—which features the Canadian singer on its cover—singer Céline Dion discussed her illness for the first time since it was revealed, according to AFP.

The 56-year-old singer from Quebec, who was diagnosed in the fall of 2022 with stiff person syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological ailment, said she receives „athletic, physical, and vocal therapy” five days a week, which involves working on her voice and body.

It’s a lot of effort, but it’s going well. In a long interview, Céline Dion said, „One day at a time.”

„I haven’t beaten the illness; it’s still within me and forever. Let’s hope we find a miracle, a way to cure it through scientific research, but I have to learn to live with it,” the actress stated.

When asked if she would be able to go back on stage, Céline Dion said she couldn’t respond to that. She stated in the interview, „I don’t know… My body will tell me,” and was shown wearing clothing designed by renowned French designers in a number of pictures.

In a video interview, the musician who has sold over 250 million CDs also discussed a number of significant events from her 40-year career. During some of these times, she can be heard singing nonstop for a few seconds.

Early in February, Céline Dion made a fleeting surprise appearance at the Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, California. There, she handed Taylor Swift the most coveted prize of the night—the „Album of the Year” category.

The Quebec star hasn’t performed live since a March 2020 show in Newark, New Jersey. The COVID-19 epidemic then forced her to halt her „Courage World Tour”. She has been dealing with the consequences of SPS since 2021.

This syndrome, which affects about one person in a million, prevents one from engaging in physically demanding activities due to extreme discomfort and movement issues.

„I Am: Céline Dion,” a documentary on the singer, is available on Amazon Prime Video since the end of January. The purpose of the video is to „raise awareness” about the star’s physical condition.
