To express gratitude for Alain Delon’s support, Ukraine decorates him
According to Ukrainian Ambassador to France Vadim Omelcenko, who made the announcement on TV5 on Thursday, the country has chosen to bestow the Order of Merit upon French actor Alain Delon as a token of appreciation for his defense of the nation that Russia is attacking.
„Alain Delon has been vocal in his support of Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict. For us, he is a symbol, it is significant,” stated the Ukrainian Embassy in Paris, mentioning that the well-known actor recited passages by Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko on a television program and took part in a conversation with President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2022.
„Mr. Delon, dear Alain, I know you are not in a very simple situation, and I want to tell you that you are not alone,” said TV5 ambassador Vadim Omelcenko straight to the French actor. „There are a lot of people who adore and respect you. I’m constantly with you, along with my people.”
Renowned French film star Alain Delon, aged 88, is gravely ill and at the center of a „war” that his three children are waging, each claiming to want to shield their father. The courts have imposed guardianship over the actor.
Alain Delon has shown support for the Kiev government ever since Moscow’s military began their huge invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
