The American Film Institute (AFI) will present Nicole Kidman with a career achievement award
Nicole Kidman will be feted by Hollywood celebrities such as Meryl Streep, Morgan Freeman, Naomi Watts, and Reese Witherspoon when the American Film Institute (AFI) presents her with the Life Achievement Award, a renowned distinction, according to DPA.
The actress Nicole Kidman, who won an Oscar, will be the 49th person to receive this honor, which is the highest accolade given by AFI for a film career.
The „Moulin Rouge” star will become the first Australian artist to receive this honor, joining the ranks of other notables who have received it in the past, including Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, and Robert De Niro.
Nicole Kidman was supposed to accept the prize on June 10th of last year, but the writers’ strike, which lasted for 146 days and ended in September 2023, caused the ceremony to be postponed indefinitely.
The 56-year-old Australian actress, who is wed to four-time Grammy winner Keith Urban, will be presented with the honor at a memorial event on April 27 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
Meryl Streep, who was the 32nd person to receive the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2004, will give her the honor.
The Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman, best known for his work in „Million Dollar Baby,” will co-host the event with Reese Witherspoon, who took home the prize for her portrayal in „Walk the Line,” and British actress Naomi Watts, who made her mark in the movie „The Impossible.”
„AFI President and CEO Bob Gazzale said of Nicole Kidman, ‘Nicole Kidman embodies the glamour and romance of old Hollywood – a true screen legend – but also takes risks, and each performance brings something new and profound.”
„And like all great artists, Nicole not only gives back, but also contributes to the progress of culture by advocating for the amplification of female directors’ and producers’ voices,” he said.
Nicole Kidman has been nominated for five Academy Awards. She won in the Best Actress category in 2003 for her performance in the movie „The Hours,” costarring with three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep.
Nicole Kidman was awarded the highest honor bestowed by Australia in 2006: the Companion of the Order of Australia.
She has also received six Golden Globes, two Emmy Awards, and a BAFTA Award over her career.
Being one of only eight people worldwide to be awarded the 70th Anniversary Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, she did so in 2017.
Nicole Kidman has a distinguished acting career in addition to serving as a Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women, a United Nations organization that promotes gender equality and women’s empowerment, for almost 20 years. She and her husband have also helped raise millions of dollars for the Stanford Women’s Cancer Center through fundraising efforts.
