Roberto Cavalli passed away at age 83
Roberto Cavalli, the Italian fashion designer who rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s with his flamboyant designs and python skins, passed away on Friday at the age of 83, according to Italian media, as reported by AFP.
The designer passed away at his Florence, Italy, home following a protracted illness, according to Italian news agency ANSA.
The designer of clothes that provocatively exposed skin and shapes for stars of the 1970s like Brigitte Bardot and Sophia Loren, he later wooed stars of more recent generations like Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian.
Cavalli favored cigars, Ferrari vehicles, and tailored shirts that were too big over his perpetually sunburned bust. He partied with Hollywood’s finest, owned a purple chopper and a Tuscany vineyard, and married a Miss Universe finalist.
He was well-known for his faded jeans and leather printing technique. He was born on November 15, 1940, in Florence, the global center for leather goods.
He created a leopard-print version of the Playbony Bunies micro jeans in 2005.
