The Cannes 2024 schedule includes a biopic on Karl Lagerfeld

According to AFP, the Canneseries festival, which runs from April 5 to 10, released its highly anticipated series-focused schedule on Tuesday. The lineup promises a star-studded affair on the Croisette in southern France.

The comedian Jamel Debbouze’s sitcom „Terminal” will be screened to kick off the 7th edition of the festival, which is sponsored by Canal+, a French broadcaster.

Outside of the competition, „Fallout,” an Amazon Prime Video original series, will be the next preview to air. An honorary award will be given to American actor Kyle MacLachlan („Twin Peaks,” „Desperate Housewives”) and British actress Ella Purnell („Yellowjackets”), who are the show’s main performers. The well-known actor will also present a seminar.

In addition, attendees will get to see German Daniel Brühl („Good Bye Lenin!” „Inglorious Basterds”) in the French production „Becoming Karl Lagerfeld,” formerly known as „Kaiser Karl,” which will debut on June 7 forDisney+.

The six-part documentary, which is based on a biography by Le Monde journalist Raphaëlle Bacqué, traces Karl Lagerfeld’s ascent to prominence in the 1970s before he was named Chanel’s main designer.

The final series of the festival, „Franklin” (Apple TV+), starring American Michael Douglas as the country’s founding father, will cap the festival. Frenchman Pierre Niney will play a struggling director in „Fiasco” (Netflix).

Highlights of the event also included a meet-and-greet with Canadian Vanessa Morgan („Riverdale”), Italian-Canadian Giacomo Gianniotti („Grey’s Anatomy”), and Jason Priestley („Beverly Hills”), who portrays Brandon. Priestley is cast in the Canadian series „Wild Cards.”

Sports enthusiasts can also see a screening of the Canal+ documentary „Handball, une histoire de familles” in the few months leading up to the Paris Olympics (26 July–11 August) and then speak with French handball legend Jackson Richardson.

On „Dragon Ball,” fans will be able to witness an interview with Brigitte Lecordier, who plays the French voice of the character Son Goku. „Dragon Ball” was created by Akira Toriyama, a Japanese author who passed away recently at the age of 68.

Eight films from eight different nations will compete in the feature film category, including Brazil and China for the first time (with a biography on sociologist Herbert de Souza).
